Horse Show

Saturday morning several of the people I ride with showed reining at the Cowboy Campus on Smith road. I went along to see how they do it and learn some reining patterns. It was fun watching but very cold that morning! Allison's secret service took this photo of me.

2nd Riding

This evening I road for the second time on Playboy again. He's an amazing horse! Allison is a good trainer and I've learned a lot in the little time I've been there. I saddled up by myself and worked most of the evening on getting a feeling for steering.

We had another lecture this time on using the round pen working with 2 year olds. I'm catching up online with the lectures I've missed. Last night I watched one on horse behavior and I have another to watch on tack and equipment.

No pictures of me yet. I'll ask Allison to take some. Here's one of her and Playboy.

Horseshoe Heel Plates

I like my cowboy boots. For the last few years that's all I've worn. One down side to wearing cowboy boots all the time is that the heels can wear down quickly, especially if you're on concrete. I tried some heel savers but they didn't set level. A few weeks ago I found these heel plates used by military and police. So far I've been happy with them. They are a little noisy walking on hard surfaces and can be slick on linoleum. If you're on concrete or dirt/grass/gravel they work great and should make heels last a lot longer.

These can be purchased from Liams Shoppe through Amazon.com

First Riding Lesson

Yesterday I had my first riding lesson! Allison, my trainer, let me ride her stud, Playboy, a 250 thousand dollar horse who shes won everything with. I learned to saddle him and then took him out to the arena.

In the arena after getting a few tips I got to walk around alone with him, trot, and then lope which was a lot of fun. She also had me do a few spins which was really exciting, especially on a horse like that!

Because I broke my pelvis a few years ago riding does hurt it some after awhile. I just need to stretch a little more.

I have three hours of horse lecture to get caught up on before the next on Wednesday and more riding. Stay turned...

Reining, Cowhorse Lessons

My younger sisters have recently been interested in riding and have taken a few lessons. I've always wanted to do riding but just haven't taken the effort or spent the bucks for it. The other day I ran across an add for "Reining, Cowhorse Lessons". I met with the trainers and it looks like a great place to learn. They teach basic riding skills and proper handling as well as reining, cowhorse training. The head trainer has a 15 week program where she teaches just about everything one needs to know about horses. She, one other trainer and I are also wanting to learn roping together. Stay tuned for more...
